Hey everyone, I came across something while reading about the Navy Yard tragedy that's been haunting me. Did anyone else learn about how Kathy Gaarde was just weeks away from her retirement? It absolutely tears me apart thinking about how Kathy and her husband, Douglass, were on the verge of starting a new chapter together. They had dreams and plans that were just snatched away in an instant. It's so incredibly unfair. I'm just struggling to wrap my head around how someone who had contributed so much and was ready to enjoy the fruits of her hard work could be taken from us like that. It feels like a profound injustice, and my heart truly goes out to Douglass and their loved ones who have to face this unimaginable reality. I hope sharing this brings some comfort in knowing that she and the others aren't forgotten. Would love to hear your thoughts on how the community can better support her family or honor her legacy. Any ideas?

Has anyone else looked into the security concerns that were highlighted after the Navy Yard shooting? I can't help but think about Kathy Gaarde and the others who lost their lives that day. It's devastating to know that someone could get access to such a secure place with a valid pass and then cause this level of harm. Why wasn't there more rigorous screening, especially considering Alexis's known mental health issues? It's disturbing to think that this could happen again if security protocols aren't improved. My heart goes out to Kathy's family. I hope they find some peace and that lessons are learned from this tragedy.
