I’ve been thinking a lot about the witness accounts in Herbert Dowtin’s case. It’s chilling to imagine what it must have been like for anyone nearby to witness such a tragic event unfold. I can’t help but wonder how these witnesses are coping now. Experiences like these can be incredibly traumatic, and it’s often the silent witnesses who carry unseen burdens long after the case reaches the courtroom. If any of them are reading this, I hope they’re seeking support and finding ways to take care of their mental health. Kudos to them for stepping forward, and thanks to everyone who provided evidence to help solve the case. Let’s hold space for Herbert’s family and anyone else touched by this tragedy.

I can't help but feel so much sadness for Herbert Dowtin's family and friends. A life taken too soon and so violently—it’s unimaginable. I've been thinking a lot about how the community might have been affected by this senseless act. A part of me wonders if there were signs or red flags in the days leading up to the tragedy. It’s a reminder of how crucial it is for communities to have support systems and resources in place to potentially intervene before things escalate. It's heartening to see that the MPD and the community came together, offering a reward for information, showing solidarity in seeking justice for Herbert. While Hough’s guilty plea might provide some closure, it never truly mends the loss. How is everyone doing now, seven years later? Has the area seen any improvements in terms of safety and support since then?
