I’ve been thinking a lot about Luis Zuniga and the impact his tragic death has on the Belmont Cragin neighborhood in Chicago. It’s so sad to see someone who was just coming home from church become a victim of such senseless violence. This neighborhood, like many others in Chicago, has been struggling with rising crime and gang activity, and it’s terrifying for the residents who just want to live their lives in peace. What’s even more frustrating is the reality of illegal firearms flooding the city, which adds another layer of danger and fear for everyone. My heart goes out to Luis’s family and friends; to lose someone in this way must be incredibly difficult. I genuinely hope that community initiatives and increased dialogue can bring some change and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
