Willis Edwin Derendoff, 34, was last seen in Fairbanks on November 10, 2020. A Koyukon Athabascan from Huslia, he had been in Fairbanks after finishing seasonal work with Taiga Mining Company and staying at an Extended Stay America hotel near Old Airport Road. Family members report unconfirmed sightings at Wrights Air Service and a Fred Meyer on Airport Way that day; other reported sightings followed on November 11 and 12, including near his hotel with a tall Native Alaskan man with a thick mustache.
He was reported missing by family the day he vanished. Described as 5 feet 9 inches and about 160 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, Willis was last believed to be wearing a black leather jacket, red sleeper fleece pants or blue jeans, red Converse shoes, and possibly a black beanie. Distinct tattoos include Traci on one hand, R.J.W. on the other, and sometimes quiet is violent on his forearm. The Alaska State Troopers handled the investigation and in 2021 reclassified the case as a homicide, though few public details have been released. His family mounted searches, worked with a private investigator, and continues outreach online.
