Does anyone else find themselves thinking of the tragic loss of Jose Hernandez and feeling immense sorrow for his family? At just 17, Jose had his whole life ahead of him, which makes his untimely death all the more devastating. The violence that took him from his loved ones has left a void that can never be filled. Reading about the state of Chicago's neighborhoods during that time, I can't help but feel the frustration of communities doing their best to protect their young ones in an environment that feels stacked against them. It's a harsh reality that many of our youth grow up facing, trapped in a cycle where hope seems fleeting. I hope that sharing memories of Jose and others like him can spark the necessary dialogue to create real change. My thoughts are with his family. May his story not be in vain, and may it serve as a catalyst for the safer future that Chicago's youth deserve.
