It's really tough to read about cases like Omar King's where a life is ended in such a tragic manner. I feel deeply for his family and friends who have to navigate this aftermath. One aspect of this case that I'm trying to wrap my head around is the decision made by the district attorney, Maggie Conboy, not to file charges against Mr. Colbert. It seems the rationale was there wasn't enough evidence for a conviction, but it makes me wonder about the threshold for self-defense and how these decisions are made. How does one measure 'likelihood of conviction' in such complex cases? For those of you familiar with similar cases, how often do decisions like this happen, and what are the usual factors considered? It's just such a heavy thing for everyone involved, and I hope Omar’s loved ones find some peace.
