Just been thinking about the case of Michael Miller. I find it curious how little mention there is about any wildlife encounters during the search efforts. Mount Lafayette is known for its rugged terrain, and it's not uncommon for hikers to encounter bears or other wildlife. I've read about cases where wildlife can sometimes move or disturb evidence, not to mention the risk of a possible encounter. Does anyone know if the search teams reported any wildlife activity or if there was ever any consideration of this angle during the investigation? It's one more variable in a case filled with lingering questions.
I've been following the case of Michael Miller for a while, and something that always puzzled me is the unconfirmed sighting near Greenleaf Hut. Greenleaf Hut isn't exactly on a direct path if he intended to reach the summit quickly — it's a bit off the main trail. Could he have gotten disoriented or sought shelter because the weather started turning bad? It's also possible that someone mistook another hiker for Michael, given the chaos that ensued. I'm curious if there was ever any effort to check logs or talk to visitors at the Hut from that time, though I realize records might not exist from so many years ago. The difficult terrain and unpredictable weather conditions would make it easy for even an experienced hiker to get turned around. It's just so mysterious that no evidence has surfaced all these years. Does anyone have anything more on that Greenleaf sighting or thoughts on why he might have been seen there?
