I’ve been thinking a lot about the logistics surrounding McClure’s pursuit of the Howe men. It must have been terrifying for him to be left alone after his partner disembarked at the flag stop. Just imagine the isolation and the dangers of continuing solo in such a remote area, especially back in 1911 when communication wasn't what it is today. I can’t help but wonder whether McClure felt a sense of foreboding as he traced the stolen corn to the campsite. This wasn't just his job; it was a risky endeavor that cost him his life. It’s truly sad reflecting on how his dedication led him into such a perilous situation alone. My heart goes out to his family who had to endure losing him, and to think they also had suffered previous losses. He must have been incredibly brave to face such odds without backup, but it seems like his bravery deserved so much more than this tragic end.
