I can't stop thinking about Brian Carrasco's case, especially after learning about the suspect's arrest six years later. It must have been an incredibly long and painful wait for Brian's family and friends. That time must have felt like an eternity without answers. While I’m relieved to see some progress with this arrest, it's so disheartening to think about how prevalent gang violence was, and still is, in Albuquerque. Brian should have had his whole life ahead of him. It's a stark reminder of how much work remains to make our communities safer for the youth. Sending my thoughts to everyone who knew and loved him.

I’ve been following Brian Carrasco’s case for a while now, and I'm always struck by how young he was—just 17. It’s so hard to wrap my head around the fact that his life was cut short in what seems like such a random act of violence. I can’t even begin to imagine what his family has gone through, living with this pain for years. The arrest in 2006 must have been a huge moment for them, offering some sense of justice, but I wonder how they are coping today. Is there anything more being done in Albuquerque to support families like Brian's who have lost loved ones to gang violence? It’s such an important issue that seems to affect so many in the community.
