I’ve been reflecting on the impact this tragedy had on the South Valley community and how devastating it must have been for Greg Griego’s extended family and friends. It strikes me that Greg, a man who spent so much of his life working to uplift others and guide those who were lost or troubled, would be taken in such a violent way. His transition from gang member to a pillar of his community demonstrated such strength and compassion. It’s tragic to think about all the lives left to cope with his absence, not to mention the grief over losing Sarah, Zephania, Jael, and Angelina. The church’s candlelight vigil must have been such a profound yet somber event, seeing everyone come together in mourning and in remembrance of the positive legacy Greg left behind. How can a community begin to heal after losing someone who was a beacon of hope and support for so many? Any thoughts on how places and people can rebuild after such a loss?
