I was reading about Sergeant Walter F. Conley's tragic death in 1980, and one detail just keeps lingering in my mind. The incident happened while he was simply doing his job, escorting a bank employee—not knowing that it would be his last day on duty. It's sobering to think how a day that began like any other ended in such horror due to a senseless act of violence. What truly gets me is imagining the heartbreak his family must have felt. It’s a poignant reminder of the immense risks law enforcement officers take every day—in something as routine as crossing a street. Does anyone know if there have been any recent efforts or memorials to honor him further? I feel like these brave sacrifices get lost and forgotten over the years. Sending thoughts to all who knew and loved Sergeant Conley.
