I was reading about the tragic death of Trina Ann Persad, and one thing that really stood out to me was the dreadful location of the incident. The playground where she was shot was named after Jermaine Goffigan, another young victim of senseless violence. It's devastating how these memorials meant to honor lost lives also reflect the ongoing cycle of violence in the community. How does a community heal and what steps can be taken to ensure that these spaces remain sacred, joyous, and safe for our children? It makes me think about how crucial it is for everyone in the neighborhood to come together and reclaim these places, to turn them into points of healing rather than just reminders of despair. My heart goes out to Trina's family and friends, as well as to all those affected by similar acts of violence in the area.
