Does anyone else feel overwhelmed seeing the number of young lives lost in Humboldt Park, even years after incidents happen? Raul Lagunas's story from 2015 really hits hard for those of us following these tragedies. Being a father and having his life cut short so suddenly—it's just devastating on so many levels. His family and kids must carry this loss every day. For those who were close to him, and others in the community, it’s like a wound that doesn’t heal but keeps reopening each time something similar happens. I hope his loved ones are finding the strength to cope through this pain, and that community action can make a tangible difference. What community-based initiatives do you all think could provide the most impact to tackle this cycle of violence? Some ideas on how we each can support Humboldt Park would be appreciated.

I've been reading about Raul J. Lagunas's case from back in 2015, and what's really sticking with me is how these incidents keep repeating in neighborhoods like Humboldt Park. It breaks my heart to think that his kids have to grow up without their father because of something like this. It seems like every time we hear about these tragedies, we're reminded that there’s still so much work to be done to make these areas safer. It makes me wonder what more can be done on a community level, beyond policing, to actually make a difference. Are there any successful programs in other cities that have made a real impact? My thoughts are with his family, who are forced to navigate life without him.
