Just came across some info about the vigil held for Alissa King, and it’s really struck a chord with me. It was heartbreaking to read about how many of her friends and family gathered on Topliff Street with balloons and candles. There’s something so powerful about these gatherings—it's a chance for everyone to connect in their shared grief and show just how much Alissa meant to them all. It's moments like these that really highlight the community's resilience and their desire to honor her memory. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain her friends are feeling right now, losing someone who was such an important part of their lives. It’s truly agonizing to think that such a young life, full of promise, was cut short in this way. Let’s keep her loved ones in our thoughts and maybe share more about what makes vigils like these meaningful or suggest ideas to support those grieving. I think it’s important that we all feel empowered to take action, even if it’s in small, personal ways.

It's just so incredibly sad and frustrating to see another young life cut short because of gun violence. I was reading about Alissa King and couldn't help but think about the impact this has on her basketball team. She was a star on the court, and I can only imagine how her teammates and coaches must feel losing such a talented and vibrant teammate. You hear so often about how close sports teams become, almost like a second family. For Alissa's team, practicing or even stepping onto the court again without her presence might be incredibly difficult. I hope her teammates are able to find the support they need and perhaps even dedicate future games in her memory. Alissa deserved so much more than this, and I hope justice is served. We really need to address this cycle of violence so no other young person has to be remembered this way.
