It's been almost eight years since the tragedy at Umpqua Community College, and I still find myself thinking about the incredible bravery shown by so many that day. Kim Saltmarsh Dietz's story has stuck with me, particularly her unwavering dedication to education. Not only was she pursuing higher learning for herself, but she was also setting an inspiring example for her daughter. It's so moving to see a mother and daughter sharing those moments and dreams together. Kim's love for her daughter and her zest for life are evident through the memories shared by those who knew her. Her role as a caretaker at Pyrenees Vineyards and the affection she had for her Great Pyrenees dogs is honestly touching. It's clear she put as much love into her work and hobbies as she did into her relationships. It's overwhelming to think about the pain Kim's family and friends must feel, particularly her daughter and ex-husband, Eric. They had to endure such an enormous loss, and I'm hopeful they’re continuing to find strength in each other and in the wonderful memories they shared with Kim. Knowing that her daughter was unharmed is a small relief in an otherwise unimaginable situation. The courage of the victims and survivors deserves endless recognition. These events remind us of the importance of empathy and support in our communities. Let's keep the discussions around Kim's story going so that her legacy of kindness and dedication is never forgotten.

Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about Kim Saltmarsh Dietz and her passion for education. It's incredibly moving to see someone pursuing their dreams and education hand in hand with their daughter. It speaks volumes about her as a mother, wanting to set an example and share that journey with her child. Kim's commitment to learning later in life is inspiring. It makes her loss in the Umpqua Community College shooting even more profound because she was actively working towards self-betterment. She embodied the spirit of lifelong learning, and it’s heartbreaking to see such a bright light extinguished so tragically. Does anyone know if there was any memorial or scholarship set up at the college in her honor? It would be heartening to know her dedication to education continues to inspire others. My thoughts are with her family, especially her daughter. Going through such a traumatic event at a young age must be unimaginably difficult. Hug your loved ones a little tighter today.
