I've been following the Hermiston shooting case from 2016, and recently I've been thinking about the role of evidence—or lack thereof—in solving crimes like this. It's baffling and frustrating to see how some cases, despite significant time passing, still remain unsolved.
In Jason Edward Huston's tragedy, what puzzles me is the sparse amount of evidence or leads the police have reported. It makes you wonder how common it is for cases like these to hit a brick wall just because the right evidence isn't in place, or perhaps isn't being pieced together effectively. It must be incredibly difficult for Jason's family and friends, living without answers and justice for so long.
Does anyone else have thoughts on this or similar situations where the investigation seems to run into dead ends almost immediately? How do investigators typically reignite such cold cases? I can't stop thinking about the neighbors and how this must have affected them too. Living in a small town like Hermiston, I'm sure many people knew Jason personally or had connections to him in some way. It's hard to imagine how unsettling it must have been to have such a tragic event happen so close to home. I remember reading somewhere that the entire community was in shock, struggling to come to terms with the violence that disrupted their normally quiet neighborhood.
