I've been thinking a lot about the difficulties in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood, especially after what happened to Deandre D. Holiday. It's incredibly infuriating and sad how gun violence continues to shatter lives. Deandre was just 24, with so much life ahead. I can't imagine what his family must be enduring, being the first family to experience such a tragic loss in 2016. With Chicago witnessing such horrific numbers regarding gun violence that year, it's crucial we talk about how important community support and engagement are. If we can bring more resources, education, and unity into these areas, maybe we can help prevent future tragedies. Deandre’s story is a stark reminder that we need to push harder for change. My thoughts are with his loved ones.
