I’ve been following the tragic events that unfolded in Chicago back in January 2016, specifically the West Englewood area, and I keep circling back to Damon Allen’s case. While reading the news reports, I couldn't help but feel the weight of communities enduring so much pain and loss. Damon was just 19. It breaks my heart to think about all the potential and dreams that were stolen away that night. With the surge in gun violence during that period, so many stories like Damon’s seemed to get buried under statistics. It’s gut-wrenching to think about what his family must have endured. I’m curious—are there any community groups or initiatives that have popped up in response to this violence that maybe drew inspiration from Damon’s story or others like his? I truly hope there have been positive changes and dedicated efforts in making neighborhoods like West Englewood safer. If anyone knows of updates or ways to support, please share. We can't let these stories fade away without making real strides for change.
