I've been following the Ryan Mumaw case pretty closely, and something that's really sticking with me is the role of Tayjuhn Coble in all this. When he pleaded "no contest," he admitted enough that landed him with a 15-year sentence. What's really tough to sit with is that through his plea deal, he ended up with a possibility of being out in seven-and-a-half years, while the Mumaw family has to face a lifetime without Ryan. It's hard to imagine what they'd even feel about that. He did apologize, and I can only hope his regret is genuine and not just more courtroom dialogue. Still, Coble's young, and the decision to get tangled in this mess changed his life forever, too. It doesn't make up for the loss or the pain Ryan's family is experiencing, but it does add another layer of tragedy to the whole situation. I can't help but think about how easily this could have been prevented and how many lives are now forever altered. My heart truly goes out to everyone involved, especially the Mumaws who have to carry on without their son and brother.
