Hey everyone, I've been reading about Brian Johnson's case, and I'm struck by how much the broader environment in Chicago may have influenced what happened to him. The year 2016 wasn't easy for anyone living there, especially with how tense things were between the community and police after the release of the Laquan McDonald video. It's hard not to wonder if the changes in police procedures didn't weaken their ability to curb such violence. What breaks my heart is thinking about how many families, like Brian's, were left to pick up the pieces during this incredibly violent year. I sincerely hope that cases like Brian’s receive the attention they deserve, and that more solutions are found to prevent such tragedies in the coming years.
