I’ve been following the sad news about Deputy Thomas E. Baker III and something I keep thinking about is the toll incidents like this must take on the communities they happen in. Birch River isn’t a big place, and it feels like everyone would either know Deputy Baker or have friends and family affected by what happened. We've talked a lot about the specifics of the incident, but I wonder what kind of support systems are in place for the community and the fellow officers who’ve lost a colleague and friend. It must be so challenging to carry on with daily duties while coping with such a loss. My thoughts are with everyone in Nicholas County who’s been touched by this tragedy. ❤️
