I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact community relationships have on violent crime, especially after reading about Christian Ortiz's case. Albany Park, like many neighborhoods, seemed to be increasingly isolated from effective community-police collaborations back in 2016. Does anyone have insights or experiences with community programs that promote cooperation between residents and local law enforcement? Strengthening these bonds seems crucial in light of Ortiz’s tragic death and the broader surge in violence that year. I know it won’t bring Christian back, but maybe if communities and police worked together more effectively, there could be a reduction in these devastating incidents. My heart goes out to Christian's family and friends who must be enduring an unimaginable loss. Is there any hope for neighborhoods like Albany Park to heal and prevent further tragedies?
