I've been thinking a lot about the training and protocols that go into law enforcement handling situations like the one with Leighton C. Fitz. It’s so important to consider whether the officers involved received the right preparation for managing someone exiting their home armed, as Fitz did. Was there any effort made to de-escalate before things turned fatal? I truly feel for the Fitz family and can't imagine grappling with unanswered questions. Knowing more about how officers are trained could potentially offer insights or improvements for future encounters. Every loss like this seems to underline the importance of rigorous evaluation and training.
