I’ve been following the Martinez case for a while now, and it's so tough to wrap my head around how something like this could happen. Lexie and Lauren were in their own home, in what should have been their safe space, and it’s painful to think about how that was violated. What really gets to me is Nathan's age at the time—17. It's such a fragile age where decisions can have lifelong consequences, and in this case, devastating ones for so many people. I know there’s been lots of talk about “Natural Born Killers” and its potential influence, but I think we should also be reflecting on mental health and the resources available to teenagers. Not that it excuses anything, but it might help us understand how to prevent similar tragedies in the future. My heart goes out to those who loved Lexie and Lauren; I can’t imagine what they’ve been through and continue to go through. It’s such a loss on so many levels.
