Did anyone else feel an overwhelming sense of injustice when reading about Cervantes-Angel's plea deal? I get that not seeking the death penalty might have been a strategic decision, but it just doesn't seem like enough for the brutal loss of Jose and Abril. Their lives were stolen over something as trivial as a T-shirt dispute. I can’t imagine the pain their family is enduring, losing two young, vibrant souls in such a violent manner. Seeing the community come together with vigils and memorials is truly moving, but I hope the justice system reflects on these senseless murders and finds ways to prevent similar tragedies in the future. How can we change this narrative of violence over petty arguments, especially involving such young lives?
