I've been following the tragic case of Memorez Clark Rackley and her son, Jase, with a heavy heart. One thing that really stayed with me was how Memorez was failed by the system that was supposed to protect her. She reached out multiple times to report Jeremy Patterson's threats, and yet there seemed to be so little action taken because of the legal limitations surrounding their relationship status.
It's so painful to think about how these legal gray areas can have such deadly consequences. No one should ever feel like their concerns won't be taken seriously just because they weren't married or living with someone. I'm grateful that some changes have been made in Utah's laws, but it shouldn't have taken such a devastating event for that to happen.
I can't stop thinking about Myles and what he went through that day, losing both his mom and brother. I hope with all my heart that he and the good Samaritan's daughter find the strength and support they need to heal from this nightmare. My thoughts are with their families as they continue to navigate life after such a senseless loss.
