It's so sad to think about how Benji's family lived through so many years without answers. Imagine the constant pain and unanswered questions they had to carry around, not knowing if justice would ever come for their beloved son and husband. Their resilience while dealing with the unknown is truly admirable. The fact that it took 14 years to crack the case really makes me appreciate the sheer determination of the detectives who never gave up. Their persistence and hard work have finally provided some closure to Benji's family. It must have been such an emotional roller coaster for them when they finally heard that Rafael Ortiz was arrested and later found guilty. I hope that, although it can never bring Benji back, this verdict has provided them with some peace or sense of justice. They deserve that after enduring so much heartache. Sending love and light to everyone who knew and loved Benji.

Has anyone else been struck by the role that modern forensic science played in the Ortiz trial? It’s incredible how advancements like DNA analysis can breathe new life into cold cases, even years after the fact. I can only imagine the relief that Benjamin Baez's family must have felt when they heard about the arrest after such a long period of anguish and unanswered questions. It serves as a hopeful reminder for other families waiting for justice. It's a small comfort, but knowing that these types of efforts continue means that other unsolved cases may one day find resolution, too. How many other cases could be cracked with similar pieces of evidence that we just haven't discovered yet?
