Has anyone else seen the reports about Pedro "Waldie" Nieves' plea deal? I'm struggling to wrap my head around it. How is it that the one who pulled the trigger and took David Rivera-Mateo’s life gets 30 years while others involved got significantly less? I mean, taking a life is irreversible, and Rivera-Mateo's family has to live with this loss every single day. It just feels like sometimes the justice system moves quickly without fully considering the impact on victims' families. Also, given how methodical the robbery was, it's chilling to think about how far these gang-related activities infiltrated the community in Waterbury. It does make me wonder what more could be done to prevent such tragic incidents in the future. Thoughts?
