I'm really disturbed by the fact that Denise's own son was in the apartment at the time of the murder. I can't imagine the absolute terror he must have felt hearing the gunshot and knowing something horrible was happening to his mother just on the other side of that door. It seems like Diaz and the others acted without any regard for human life, and it's upsetting to think about how this has changed the course of that young man's life forever. My heart truly goes out to him and the rest of Denise’s family. It's unfathomable to think about the strength they must have to find to cope with such a loss in such a violent way. This case really reminds us how deeply these violent acts ripple outwards, affecting so many more people than just those directly involved. Denise’s story is a haunting reminder that nobody is immune to the senseless violence that seems all too common these days.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Denise Rogers-Rollins' son who was in the apartment during this heinous crime. It must be unimaginably difficult to deal with not only the loss of a mother but also experiencing that level of terror firsthand. I hope he has a strong support system around him right now. It’s so upsetting to think how one moment can change a person's life forever. My heart goes out to him and the rest of Denise’s family. How does someone even begin to heal from something like this? It also makes me wonder how many other families are affected by similar violent crimes. It seems like such an indescribably tough journey to navigate.
