Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the vigil that was held for Loyd Daniel. For those who might not know, Loyd was a kind and humble 19-year-old from Chicago who was tragically taken from us during that awful weekend back in July 2016. A lot of us gathered to remember him, and it really showed just how loved he was by his community. It was heartbreaking to see so many people come together, not only to mourn but also to honor Loyd's memory and the light he brought into so many lives. The candles, the stories shared, the hugs – it was a poignant reminder of the human side of these numbers we hear about. It reinforced for me the urgency of addressing gun violence with real, community-centered solutions. I just wanted to share this as a small reminder of who Loyd was and how much he meant to so many. It's vital that his story, and the stories of others like him, continue to inspire change. If anyone attended or has thoughts on these community gatherings, I'd love to hear. Together, we can help ensure that lives like Loyd's aren't lost in vain.

While discussing the tragic uptick in gun violence in Chicago in 2016, I wanted to reflect on how these incidents impact young people like Loyd Daniel and their potential future. Loyd had his whole life ahead of him, with dreams just like any 19-year-old, abruptly cut short due to the senseless violence plaguing our city. It breaks my heart to think about the lost potential and the impact his death has had on his family and friends who must go on without him. I can't help but think about the countless others like Loyd, each with their own stories and aspirations. These aren't just statistics; they're real people with loved ones left to mourn. We must continue pressing for genuine change in our communities, addressing the root causes, and implementing effective interventions to prevent more families from experiencing such unspeakable loss. Thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy.
