I was thinking about Jamie Varvaris and how her case highlights the struggles faced by so many communities in Chicago during that time. I’ve seen a lot of people here mention the violence in 2016, and it really hit me how Jamie’s story fits into the larger narrative of what the city went through. It seems like so many families have had to endure the pain of losing loved ones to senseless violence. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for Jamie's family and friends, carrying the burden of unanswered questions in the midst of their grief. Does anyone have more insight into how the local neighborhoods or community leaders responded at the time? I get the sense that these stories were too common, and I wonder what measures were taken, if any, to address the surge in violence. My thoughts go out to the Varvaris family and everyone else affected during that unsettling time.
