Hey everyone,
I'm just diving into the tragic case of Johnny Butler and it's really weighing on my mind. One aspect I find particularly troubling is how Johnny's death seems to have been a part of this overwhelming wave of violence Chicago faced back in August 2016. I’ve read in some articles that there was a serious struggle that year to balance law enforcement presence and maintaining community trust, but it appears like that balance was hard to achieve.
It feels so unjust that Johnny became a statistic in this surge of violence. It's not just numbers on a report—each of these incidents ripples through families and neighborhoods, with lasting impacts. Knowing that communities are working hard through programs and activism to create change is somewhat reassuring. However, it's clear there’s still a lot of healing and rebuilding to do.
What are your thoughts on how community initiatives could have or can now make more of an impact? I’d love to hear if anyone’s got insights or knows more about efforts that may have taken root after such a devastating period.
Sending thoughts to Johnny’s family and everyone else affected by these events.
