Anyone else find it curious how the White River Gang seemed to know exactly where and when Marshal Patton and Deputy Mount would be at that time? It's almost as if they had eyes on the ground tipping them off. I can't help but wonder if there might have been someone within the town who silently supported the Reed family’s quest for revenge. It’s terrifying to think that someone might have been feeding them information. Such a betrayal would have added another layer of tragedy to an already devastating event. My heart goes out to Catherine and her children. To lose a partner and father in such a violent and senseless way must have been unimaginably difficult.
I was going through some old newspapers and came across the tragic story of Deputy Sheriff John Isham Mount and City Marshal William D. Patton—such a shocking and senseless act of violence. I'm particularly struck by the impact this must have had on the families left behind, especially Kate Mount and her children. Losing a loved one is devastating, but to have it happen in such a violent way, and to never see justice served, must have been incredibly difficult for them. It’s really haunting to think that these murders remain unsolved even now. I wonder if new technologies or modern investigative techniques could ever shed light on what truly happened that night. It's so important to never forget these victims and continue searching for answers, for their sake and for their families who deserved peace.
