I keep thinking about Raheem Dismukes and how it feels like he was just another victim in a long list of tragedies that year in Chicago. It's so frustrating and saddening to see young lives cut short like this, especially when you hear he was only 22. It’s just senseless. I can't imagine the pain his family must be going through, knowing their son, brother, or friend became part of such grim statistics.
What I find really troubling is how communities like Austin are stuck in this cycle. The socio-economic issues are huge - there's just not enough opportunities drawing folks away from violence. Raheem’s murder isn’t just a single event; it’s tied to this bigger web of problems that continue to went unaddressed for too long.
Does anyone know if the neighborhood or city saw any tangible changes since 2016 to tackle these issues? Or if there are more efforts to support young people directly? It’s disheartening to think Raheem’s family won’t get their son back, but maybe there’s hope that his story can be part of a push for change.
