I've been thinking a lot about Trooper Bufford's untimely death and it brings a mix of anger and sadness. Such a young life taken while doing a job meant to protect us all. What's really been on my mind is how this incident highlights the unpredictability of routine traffic stops. It's scary to think that what seemed like just another day on the job turned deadly in the blink of an eye. It's infuriating to consider that the shooter was out on parole after already serving time for another murder. How was he allowed back on the streets where he could harm more people? It seems like a huge failure in the parole system that needs addressing. My heart goes out to Trooper Bufford's family—especially knowing he was about to welcome another child. They were robbed of their future with him, and it's so unfair. Hoping for some real conversations about how we can prevent these tragedies and better protect those who protect us.
