I've been thinking a lot about the moments leading up to that horrific day in Jonesboro. It's chilling to know that Porfirio S. Hernandez, who was just released from a mental health institution, was struggling so intensely. It's devastating that his cries for help turned into such a nightmare for so many families. I can't help but wonder what support systems were in place for him, and if they were possibly lacking. I don't want to shift any focus away from the victims, but understanding the environment and mental health care that Hernandez experienced might shed some light on how the community can prevent such tragedies in the future. My heart goes out to all who are grieving. It's unimaginable the pain everyone must be feeling, especially those who were friends or family of the victims. May they find some form of peace and support during this incredibly difficult time.

I recently came across the Jonesboro tragedy from 2014, and I just can’t stop thinking about the brave children who survived the ordeal. The thought that two young boys, just 8 and 10 years old, had to witness such unimaginable violence at such a tender age is truly sobering. My heart goes out to Ayde and the other adults involved, but there’s something especially gut-wrenching about kids being caught up in such horror. It’s a relief to know they received care at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital—I’ve heard such great things about their dedication and expertise. I hope the boys have found some sense of peace and healing over the years. If anyone has any updates or knows more about how the survivors are doing now, I would be grateful to hear. It’s important we remember all those affected, not just those who were lost.
