Hey everyone, I've been reading a lot about the tragic case of Mark A. Higgins and something that's been on my mind is the impact of illegal firearms in Chicago that year. I've seen conversations touching on broader violence, but not as much about how these weapons flood our communities, making tragic nights like Halloween 2016 possible. It's terrifying to think about how readily available these guns seem to be, even to those who shouldn't have them. Mark's story is a reminder that we need more effective measures to regulate these weapons and support neighborhoods plagued by illegal gun access. I can't imagine the pain his family and friends must still be feeling. Their loss is a sharp reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive action against the illegal firearm trade in Chicago. Sending strength to all those affected. We need change so that names like Mark's stop being added to these painful statistics. Stay safe, everyone.
