I can't stop thinking about the systemic issues underlying cases like Victor Garcia's. It seems so many of these tragic incidents occur in areas that have been left behind when it comes to investment and support. Englewood, with its history of poverty and crime, appears to be a flashing red light for the city on where efforts need to be concentrated. It breaks my heart to know that Victor's family, and so many others, are grieving because real change seems so painfully slow. Community-led initiatives and better resources can make a world of difference, but they need to be scaled up to be truly effective. I hope Victor's story becomes a catalyst for intensified efforts to uplift Englewood and similar neighborhoods.
