I can't stop thinking about the impact Anthony T. Shorter's murder must have had on his community and loved ones. The Austin neighborhood has had its share of struggles, but each life lost represents shattered families and dreams. I wonder what it must be like for those who lived in his community, trying to find some sense of normalcy amid the violence. There must have been people fighting so hard every day to turn things around, to make their communities safer. It's easy to get lost in the numbers—760 homicides in a year—but behind each statistic is a story like Anthony’s, a person who was loved and will be terribly missed. I hope for justice and peace for Anthony’s family and for all those who continue to face these dangers.
