I've been thinking a lot about the specific sequence of events leading up to Detective Drummy's tragic death, particularly how incredibly risky it must have been for officers during that time. Imagine going to apprehend a suspect knowing you wouldn't have any of the modern protections or equipment that today's officers have. It's a testament to his bravery and dedication that he did this work day in and day out. Not to mention handling such a high-stakes situation as drawing out an armed suspect in what seemed to be a fairly public area at 2607 N Street. Knowing that he left behind a wife and five children just breaks my heart for them. How did they cope in the aftermath without their husband and father? It's amazing to see that his legacy has continued to be honored over a century later. The Omaha PD and community have definitely shown how much his sacrifice meant to them, which is touching. If anyone has more information about how his family was supported after his passing, I'd love to learn more about that aspect. It must have been a challenging time for them all.
