It's so gut-wrenching to think about how Marion Sylvester Bartlett's life was cut short in such a violent and senseless manner. It must have been terrifying for him during those moments, trying to protect his family from someone he probably never imagined would bring them harm. It's often overlooked in discussions about the Starkweather spree how much of a nightmare those initial altercations must have been for Marion. The betrayal of having someone you might have once trusted, or at least tolerated, become your executioner is unfathomable. My thoughts are with any surviving family members, who must carry the weight of this tragedy with them every day. It's a chilling reminder of how quickly things can escalate and how fragile our lives truly are. How different things could have been if only that day had gone another way...
