Wow, reading about the Galiuro shootout always sends chills down my spine. However, today I’m particularly struck by the aftermath for Deputy Sheriff Thomas Kane Wooten's family. It’s difficult to wrap my mind around the immense loss his wife and four children must have felt when he didn’t come home. His death was not only a devastating blow to the community but even more so to his loved ones who had to navigate life without him. I wonder how his family managed in the years following his tragic death, especially during such a tumultuous time in history with the world at war. Did the community rally around them, or were they left to fend for themselves in such a desolate era? It's stories like these that remind us of the incalculable personal cost behind the headlines of history. My thoughts are with them as I read about this case.
