It's been over two decades since that devastating day, and I still find myself thinking about Officer Atkinson's case from time to time. What's been on my mind lately is the incredible bravery of that citizen who intervened. It's rare to hear about bystanders getting involved in such dangerous situations, especially ones involving armed suspects. I can't imagine what went through his mind at that moment, but his actions probably prevented further tragedy. I wonder how the Phoenix community supported him afterward. In such emotionally charged and chaotic events, it's clear that the community steps up in unexpected ways. Sending my thoughts to Officer Atkinson's family and to the ordinary hero who played a pivotal role that day.
