Hey everyone, I came across the tragic case of Dante Swanson recently and haven't been able to stop thinking about it. It's so hard to imagine what his family must be going through after losing someone in such a senseless way. What really gets to me is how random and sudden it all seems—just finishing a shift and then becoming a statistic in a seemingly endless cycle of violence. It makes you wonder about the lives of the families who receive that kind of news, just as they are probably waiting for their loved ones to come home from a typical day. Chicago's struggle with gun violence in 2017 was overwhelming, and it's heartbreaking to see how many families are left to pick up the pieces. Does anyone know if any community programs have sprung up in the neighborhood since then? It would be comforting to believe that something positive has emerged from all this.
