I just can't stop thinking about Leila Brooks and what she's going through. I can't even imagine the pain of losing a parent in such a horrific way. To be the one who called for the welfare check and then have your worst fears confirmed… it’s just unimaginable. What struck me was that Bernice had opened up to Leila about her relationship with Rickey not being great. It's a reminder of how important it is to listen and take action when someone confides in us about their partner's behavior. I commend Leila for recognizing the signs and doing what she could by reaching out for help, but it’s heartbreaking that it wasn't enough. We must find ways to offer more support, especially to those who are potentially in danger but might not have the means or opportunity to seek help themselves. Sending love and strength to Bernice's family. They deserve to find some justice and peace.

I've been thinking a lot about the role of friends and family in cases like Bernice Pritchard's. It's just so tough when you consider the immense pain her family must be feeling right now. Leila Brooks, her daughter, did exactly what one hopes any loved one would do—she acted quickly when she felt something was off. It’s a reminder for all of us to check in with the people we care about, even more so when the holidays roll around and emotions can run high. Something that struck me was Bernice confiding in her daughter about Rickey's behavior. It's clear she felt something was wrong, and I just wonder if there could've been more support or resources available that might have made a difference. It's so important for people in these situations to have trusted loved ones they can talk to and feel safe with, but also access to broader support systems that can intervene when relationships become toxic or dangerous. Kudos to Leila for raising awareness about domestic violence in the wake of such a horrible event. Turning personal tragedy into advocacy takes immense courage, and if discussing what happened can help prevent even one similar tragedy, it’s a step toward lasting change. My thoughts are with Leila and the rest of Bernice's family during this profoundly difficult time.
