I was reading about Officer Horan and couldn't help but reflect on how incidents like these remind us of the unpredictable nature of public service jobs. My heart goes out to his family and colleagues who supported him through his commendable career. It's sickening to think about the danger officers face daily on our streets. Officer Horan's past heroics, like the lifesaving rescue he performed in 2019, really paint a picture of the person we're mourning—a true hero who consistently put others before himself.
I'm also struck by the fact that McMillian was apprehended without further incident after such a violent encounter. It raises questions about what leads someone to act in such a destructive way. In the meantime, I’ve seen folks in Greensboro coming together to honor Officer Horan’s memory, and I think that says a lot about the impact he had on those around him. Proud to see the community supporting his family through the memorial fund, too.
