I've been thinking a lot about Jaden Rashad Jones’s passing. As someone who grew up in Birmingham, the fact that this tragic event happened near Center Point hits close to home. It's tough to wrap my head around how quickly life can change. Jaden seemed like an incredible person—just 20 years old and already such a positive force in his community. Given the unexpected circumstances of his death, it's unsettling knowing his family is left grappling with so many unknowns. I graduated a few years before Jaden from Center Point High, and I remember the school being a strong, tight-knit community. Many of us were proud of our football team. It's heartbreaking to think about the future Jaden won't have the chance to live. Knowing his story just from the brief glimpses shared online, he sounded like a role model for his younger siblings and peers; a young man with so much promise. I hope that justice is served soon. It's time for our community to come together, press for answers, and work towards ensuring safety. I’ll be keeping Jaden’s family in my thoughts and hoping for their strength in this unimaginably difficult time. Please, if anyone knows anything, call the authorities. Let's do what we can to bring peace and closure to Jaden’s loved ones.
