Seventeen-year-old Camo Lee Morton was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound at a Timpson, Texas residence on July 27, 2023. Shelby County Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Tracy Broadway conducted an inquest and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Two people were arrested in connection with the case: 18-year-old Denim Smith of Timpson and a juvenile, both charged with murder. On October 5, 2023, a Shelby County Grand Jury indicted Smith for first-degree felony murder, alleging he shot Morton in the head.

Camo was born December 13, 2005, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and was remembered by family and the community as an exceptional student who enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing guitar and spending time with friends. Funeral services were held August 3, 2023, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Gary, Texas, with interment at Corinth Cemetery in Timpson.
