Hey everyone, I've been closely following the devastating incident in El Paso and wanted to discuss something that’s really been on my mind. It’s incredibly saddening to hear about what transpired between James Stephon Burton and Mario Velazquez Lechuga, especially knowing it stemmed from a long-standing neighbor dispute. What makes this case even more troubling is the role of de-escalation—or the lack thereof. Disputes between neighbors happen, but for things to have reached this point... were there any attempts at mediation or intervention before things got so out of hand? It’s painful to think that things might have been different had there been a chance for resolution before tensions boiled over. My heart truly goes out to the friends and families of James Burton and Joseph Carter. They must be going through so much right now, and on top of that, trying to piece together why this had to happen. If anyone has more insight, especially about what the community is doing to address situations like this going forward, I think it might help us all understand and hopefully prevent future tragedies.
