I can't shake the feeling of just how much potential was taken away with the death of Jacquez. We often hear about the statistics surrounding gun violence in Chicago, but behind every number is a person with dreams and a future that will now never be realized. Jacquez was only 15, standing on a sidewalk, probably thinking about things that any other teenager would—school, friends, maybe what he'd be doing over the summer. It's incredibly frustrating to think about how this could happen in broad daylight, and that the person responsible is still out there. It really makes you wonder what more could be done to protect these kids and how we can bring about real change so no more futures are senselessly lost on our streets. My heart goes out to his family and friends who have to live with this devastating loss every day. We must demand better for the youth in these communities.
